AFTER TIME IS CALLED

£250.00

BETWEEN THE NOTES

As the music plays,
The dancers are caught up in harmony.
Movements become blurred and slowed,
No matter the speed of tempo,
Colours blush in a whirl of fun,
Love and joy,
As the dancers multiply with every twirl,
Wave of arm and tap of toe.

THE WAITING GAME

Time ticks,
As seconds become minutes
That turn to hours,
which seem like years.
Stresses and strains,
Products of still sitting,
Result in shuffles and scuffles.
Twitching fidget,
Can't sit still,
Itching mindless insanity,
Which takes hold my every move
Stuck in this jive arse groove.

WATCHING THE MERRY GO ROUND

From a window a person intently watches
The comings and goings of the people below.
Clubs and pubs,
Cinema's and restaurants,
The only things on their minds,
As cars whiz by, at lightening rates,
Home time and leisure time the call of the day.
This movement breaks
The blues of night and replaces it
With bright yellow and orange red,
The town, the city,
Playgrounds of humankind.
In it men and women swing high and low,
Dance round and round.
But it takes two for a dance,
Two to play;
It says so on the box.

A TOUCH OF SUNBURN

A saturated burnt sky
Envelops the capillaries of Terra Ferma.
She breathes in the sun's last touch,
Before it departs for more exotic climes,
Alien to this small world of ours.
But the same, from the same.

STRAWBERRY FOOL

Sweet heated summer red,
Devours the strawberry fool,
She buds like a bloom in a radiant blaze.
The sun takes its toll for its gift,
Succulent fool,
Fresh fool.

THE LOOKING GLASS

Step through,
Pass on by,
What can you see from the outside in.
Look deep and hard,
Is it me,
Can it be?
Time that was
And time that is
And time that will never be.
Already in my fall,
Is this all?

SUNNY SIDE UP

Sun drenched bather,
Sizzling on her back,
Bright white yellow light
Washes her from head to toe.
Her body takes in the warmth,
Cooking ever so lightly;
Soon she will be done ever so rightly.

EVENING SONG

As the sun sets
And the sky turns orange red,
The land darkens,
Blues and blacks cover closely all sides all around,
The evening song is upon us all.
As we end our day's forced labour,
The pleasant sense of evening song
Slips slowly into our bones,
Our tired eyes begin to relax
And our breath
Sighs a relieving breath.

THE END OF THE BEGINNING

The train rolls in and it rolls out,
The endless drudge, of commuting hell
On steel wheels and rail tracks.
The seamless and monotonous to and fro,
Of the everyday sentence,
Of a long and drawn out death of working travel.

BOY RACER, MAN KILLER

Speed lust, oh how it creeps,
Ever so slowly onto the soul
Of anyone behind the wheel.
You feel like a kid,
30 soon becomes 60
Without batting an eye-lid.
Despite flashing past
Pedestrian after pedestrian,
It feels as though you're
Cruising on a Sunday afternoon,
Laws of physics cease to exist
As time slows to a snail's pace.
But a boy can become a man
With the blink of an eye
In this excelsis of driving nirvana,
In a blooded nightmare forevermore.

WINDOW BOX

Potted gardens out my window,
Everyman's kingdom,
Castled homes,
Surrounded by suburbia's jungle.
A grey shroud bleached by reds and yellows,
Blues and greens.
Man's grey-thumbed touch
Leaves his imprint,
But his green fingered mother's gift
Shines on through.

FACE TO THE WALL

Turned away from the light of day,
Don't want no talks,
No chats,
No nothing.
Cold shoulder blue
Is my two fingers to the world.
I just want to stew and mix in blue,
Be absorbed into nothing
With my face to the wall.

SHOP LIGHT TWILIGHT

A candle flame lit at both ends,
As light becomes twilight.
Late night overtime,
Burning the midnight oil,
Spilling out into the darkened streets,
Like busy little blue bottle-fire flies.
So it is!
This time in memorial,
Blood and soil
The Earthly toil.
